Chikuwa Tei Japanese Restaurant

I was feeling really depressed one day at work and needed some therapy and companion. Food and friends are definitely the best remedy.

So as I have been craving for sushi and sashimi for quite some time, I quickly shortlisted a few Japanese restaurant for our impromptu dinner and finally settled ourselves at Chikuwa Tei Japanese Restaurant.

chikuwa

It is a humble restaurant with a few bar counter seats and normal seatings. The service crews were very friendly and warming, just like those authentic Japanese restaurant. When we reached there, it was already full house. But the friendly service crew told us there will be seats available in 10 minutes time and gave us the menu to take a look first. We waited patiently and ordered our dishes before we got our table (‘cos we were famished!).

The prices were absolutely reasonable and affordable. For the tantalizing plate of sashimi for 2 (but 3 of us shared it and still feel satisfied!) cost about $38. Totally worth it. It was fresh and had retained the sweetness of the fish. The imperfection is if you love thin slices of sashimi, these might not appeal to you.

As I was craving for sushi, I ordered a tempura maki and my all-time favourite soft shell crab handroll. It was above average but I would prefer if the sushi rice is more grainy. Personal preference of course. The rest ordered their bento sets which was very worth it. Price of bento ranges from $12 to $20. And quality definitely worth more than what you paid for.

Love dinner dates like these with my colleagues, de-stressing and chilling after work. Its the companion and friendship that keeps people living in that environment. I’m also very grateful to have such lovely colleagues that anybody else would ask for.

😀

Till then,

P.S. I need a compact camera. My phone’s camera sucks.

Rooted Deep Within

There may be many negatives comments or perception from people you’ve known or not known. People always judge before knowing what’s the whole situation. They judge based on what people told them, or they heard about but did not experience before.

Some will, some won’t. So what?!

If they judged you based on their perception, then what do you need them for in your life? What I need is people who are like a palm trees and will not fall or sway by the wind or tsunami.

I have never in my life believe that I will be so passionate and positive about doing something. I used to be one of those that said “these people are crazy, they must have been brainwashed” (Yeah I know many of you are doing right now). When you have experienced how much positive people and energy you can feel in the moment, you’ll change your mind.

Never in my life am I so clear that what I want to achieve. I know what I want, I know WHY I want it, and my WHY is definitely bigger than your NO.

I am so glad that I went for this boot camp. Johnny Wimbrey is one of the best speakers and he’s now my inspiration and motivation. Not only because I’m all over him, but his words are so powerful and left a great impact on me.

Remember, believe in yourself.

And never quits.

Emo Day

While on this bus ride to school, I’m feeling a little down.

My brain decided to have a power trip on me. I felt lost and aimless all of a sudden. I don’t know what to do with my life. Looking through my social media, seems like everyone else got a aim in their life, while I’m lost in a jungle.

Am I really up for this? Can I really do this? Do I have the skill to this? What’s my talent? Do I even have one?

I often asked myself, “is it better to be an all-rounder and master at none or being an expert in something?” No matter how hard I want to learn something, I just couldn’t fully understand it and master it. At young, I had learnt ballet and gymnastic, but I gave up halfway. I was given opportunities to participate in the gymnast competition too. Joined the track and field after that and gotten quite a few medals. But didn’t continue it in secondary school. I’ve taken up guitar classes during primary school and stop learning after I graduated (although I played a few times with my peeps in secondary school). Then I joined chinese orchestra and played in the percussion. Also left halfway due to my laziness to go for classes during the holidays (they had classes almost every other day!). Played basketball as hobbies and stopped playing due to some relationship problem over there. Signed up for some dance classes during my poly life. Discontinued midway cos of money constraint and no motivation.

Sigh. I can go on and on. On a optimistic side, hey, I can do a lot of things! But then again, which is more important, all-rounder or expert.

Just posting a question to myself. I don’t know how to change this part of me. I really don’t. Someone enlighten me, pretty please?

Tiden Turned One!

Wee happy post today!

So on 29th June, we were invited to Tiden’s first birthday party! He is the precious son of my colleagues, who is also a mother of 3. All her kids are so adorable, but they can be really naughty at times.

Blossom, Tida and myself have also volunteered to do a dessert bar for her. Yeap, so this is the mini project I was talking about in my previous post. We started a few weeks back with planning of what to bake and layout of the dessert bar. I was pretty excited about this and very satisfied with the outcome!

I really admire and envious of people who can draw really well and Tida’s drawing is just so good!! Though I didn’t contribute too much, but I enjoyed the process of planning, doing research and stuff like that. I just like being involved. As most of the things in the dessert bar are DIY, so we were occupied the whole week because we can only do it after work.

So on the day itself, we went early to set up our station. And tada, proudly present our dessert bar for Tiden!

Our very own dessert bar!

Spot our nicely wrapped homemade cookie truffle! We’ve gotten good reviews and can’t find that in Singapore.

Our very own cupcake stand that goes with the theme!

And the party started. Here’s the bits and pieces of the party.

And the highlight of the night for the kids is the pinata time! Tiden’s godma made him this gigantic M&M pinata for his party! She really has good handicraft skills. She even made him a chocolate candy bar as well as the photobooth backdrop. All by herself! I’m super impressed.

Moving On

Image

Everyday, every minute, every second we are always moving forward. As cliche as it sounds, time waits for no man.

In a few weeks time, I will be stepping up to a new environment(somewhat), new position with new responsibilities. Although it’s what I’ve been wanting to do, I still felt some what a difficult choice. I am so used to my environment now, with all my lovely colleagues around me, all the laughter we have, jokes we made when no one else’s is in the room. We would still be in the same company, but I’ll probably need to spend lesser time with them. I’ll probably need to sacrifice some of the laughter. I’ll probably feel the distance after not getting so involved with them.

Well, I guess everyone has to always move on. Nobody should move backwards or stop moving. When this happen, things changes and you’ll need to adapt and change as well. But I believe there is always more than a way to do things. Doesn’t mean the previous person has this way of doing things and I will have to follow blindly. I can create my own ways of doing, right? Hah. I know I will create a different style of working, keeping close with my colleagues now and also manages my work well.

(I just needed a reminder to myself 😀 )

Afterall, it’s just a matter of your own decision.

Tokyo Sushi Academy

So we were very honored to be invited by Wa Show for a food tasting at Tokyo Sushi Academy! Wa-Show has recently launched a local online website where you can purchase their products. How awesome is that!

What I love about Japanese and their food is that they are very respectful and very serious to them. From the way they explain to us and talk about their product, I can feel their passion and appreciation in it. When we reached there, we were been served with very fresh honey tomato. I‘ve never ate so much tomatoes before and they are just so irresistible. Every one of them is so sweet! And literally EVERY one of them! Just look at how pretty are those honey tomatoes.

And my two beautiful colleagues are enjoying the best tomatoes in town

What’s Japanese food without tea? So we were served with their specially imported flavoured tea. I chosed the Monka Black Tea with “Momotaro” Grape. It’s black tea with infused with tint of grapes’ flavour. The natural sweet taste is very suitable for those who doesn’t like the strong bitter taste of tea. The prices for the tea are also very reasonable. Definitely worth a try!

Image

Okay, now the food part. Since they were show casing their specially imported Japanese Kagoshima Wagyu beef, from shabu-shabu salad to sushi is beautifully done with the Waygu beef. Every cow will be given a birth certificate. They will be given a name, their parent’s name, identification number etc, just like us. Here’s a quick snap of the birth certificate.

Image

And wow, the beef dishes are so good. Tender, smooth, and with a few cups of sake. Everything makes it perfect. Let the photo do the talking.

ImageImageImageImageImage\

Now looking at these photos make me want to eat them again. Finishing the dinner with crown melon. They cost a bomb as they will cut away the other 2 melon out the the 3 melon that has grown from a seed and only chose the 1 that grows well, so that all the nutrients and minerals only goes to the crown melon. This is how perfect and prideful the farmers treat their “babies”. It’s so sweet that I thought they may have added artificial flavouring.

That summarize the experienced at TSA. If you are planning some team bonding activities for your company or school, you may want to consider a cooking class at TSA. They have space that can accommodate a class of 20 people (if I’m not wrong). Find out more on their website here! Learn to dish out some sushi sounds fun!

July

Just ended my buzz buzz beezy month of June. It just flew past without me noticing it. It seemed like only yesterday that I was nervously blogging bout going for my first work trip to Cambodia!

Well, I don’t know where should I start writing from. Too much things happen and I just want to say about every single thing.

Oh, did I tell you about the Jay Chou’s concert I went on the 8th of June?! It was pretty awesome! A little bit of disappointing though. Firstly, I didn’t manage to buy the concert battery light stick as we went on the last day of the concert and was sold out while we were in queue 😦 Then, as it was the last day, we could hear Jay’s voice was very sore and tired. But he did his best and I enjoyed myself.

(Please pardon my sequence, it’s in a big mess right now)

Went for photography course with my bff before I flew to Cambodia. It was quite beneficial if I’ll ever be a fashion photographer. We did a trial shot with the pretty model, Andrea, but most of us were quite shy to ask her to do poses. Managed to shoot some shot. Photos here.

Worked for a wedding event on a Sunday. It was a cross-cultural wedding of a German and Chinese. I remembered an English teacher of mine asked us a question like this on a racial harmony day: What is the best way to show truly racial harmony? No prizes for the right guess. It’s love, marriage. When two people of different race decided to tie a knot together, it shows that they accept the difference and respect the culture of another. Isn’t that what racial harmony truly means, acceptance and respect. Anyway, back on the track, it was a well-blessed marriage, from the family and friends, where they also gave their utmost blessing to them.

Upcoming on post:
1. Tokyo Sushi Academy
2. Tiden Turns One

Ending my post here. Feel free to comment on how I can improve this tiny spot. Much appreciated!
